EXPERIMENTS IN MULTI UNIT HOUSING

Background:

The task of this studio was to address the issue of urban porosity in relation to the changing scale of interface underway in the high-densitytransformation of Mort St, Canberra; and to propose an experimental and attuned multi-unit residential response to enhance the permeability and (soft) boundary of these redefined thresholds. While Lonsdale Street is strengthened by an overt pedestrian street scale and interconnectivity, Mort Street is broader set and more hard bounded. It is still in search of its urban character and soft porosity, and thus forms the focus of this studio.
